Barry Russo’s Cholla Cactus and Turquoise Pen

turquoise pen

Barry made this pen from the cholla cactus wood in the picture. A friend of his found it on a desert hike in Las Cruces, New Mexico. The cactus sheds its branches as part of its growth cycle. The inlay is crushed turquoise from a mine in Cerrillos, NM along what is known as the turquoise trail.

David Doria’s Alphabet Blocks

David Doria made these beautiful alphabet blocks and a box to store them in.  The consonant blocks are quarter sawn sycamore and the vowels are Red Wood.  The box is made of Sapele. The letters were created with a wood burning tool and everything was simply finished with clear shellac (baby safe!).
